Tim Karpoff is an Industry Partner at Motive Partners (effective September 1, 2026).
At Motive, Tim partners closely with the firm's investment professionals and portfolio company leadership teams, providing strategic perspective throughout the investment lifecycle. He helps evaluate investment opportunities, assess corporate development and transformational M&A initiatives, and works alongside management teams to support long-term value creation across the firm's portfolio.
Tim brings experience at the intersection of enterprise strategy, corporate development, and public policy. Throughout his career, he has advised executive leadership teams, boards, regulators, and policymakers on many of the significant strategic decisions shaping the global financial services industry. His experience spans global banking, government, legal advisory, and corporate strategy, providing a distinctive perspective on how financial institutions compete, grow, and navigate industry transformation.
Prior to joining Motive, Tim served as Global Head of Strategy at Citigroup, where he led the firm's enterprise-wide strategic planning and oversaw Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions. Working closely with Citi's executive leadership, he helped shape long-term strategic priorities, evaluate growth opportunities, and guide strategic decision-making across one of the world's largest financial institutions.
Before Citigroup, Tim held several senior leadership positions at Barclays, including Group Head of Strategy & Corporate Development and Group Chief of Staff & Head of Corporate Relations. Across these roles, he advised executive management and boards on enterprise strategy, corporate development, organizational transformation, stakeholder engagement, and long-term business planning.
Earlier in his career, Tim served as Director of the Office of Financial Institutions Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he advised on financial institutions policy and regulatory matters. He previously served as Counsel to Chairman Gary Gensler at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission before becoming a partner at Jenner & Block.
